Building BIG Links with Little (or NO) Outreach

Creating compelling research content and in demand stock images to build big links with as little outreach as possible. The link building training course for people who really don't like outreach.

Building BIG Links with Little to No Outreach

Do you HAVE to be good at PR to build links?

No. You don't. You don't even have to particularly want to do PR.

PR can be amazing for link acquisition, but over the last couple of years I've heard lots of people question their own ability to deliver in SEO terms simply because they're not PR professionals. You don't have to do PR to build links.

I set out in 2018 to do less of the things I don't like (people management and outreach) without compromising on the quality and quantity of links I was acquiring from top tier outlets to client sites and my own projects.

Over the last few years I've been fortunate enough to deliver training on this tactical link building side of things to some amazing in house teams. And I've been able to speak about link building at some amazing conferences.

With a shift in direction for me over the last year, I'm no longer offering bespoke training. So I've compiled detailed how tos and guide content into this course on tactical link building for people who are, frankly, not PR professionals.

The course covers three particular tactics that have real scale and have generated thousands of links for me and my clients over recent years. We'll go through how to execute these tactics in detail and ultimately create a scalable link acquisition plan that earns top tier links.

Examples of one of the tactics at play

Some examples of the sort of link building results achieved with the link building tactics within this course.

In this first example, we created a research piece on insomnia and ranks it for "insomnia statistics" resulting in (as of August 2022) links from over 200 domains:

And they're not just any old domains. These are great sites in so many cases, like these ones here:
But more importantly, these links have been acquired over time without outreach. In other words, while we continue with other SEO, content or link building activity, this asset continues to build its own links. It scales.
The links come from great quality sites too, which I personally care much more about than quantity.
We use a demo site of our own to test and showcase link building tactics like these, so you can check out the link profile of
to see further examples of research content and Creative Commons Image link building at play.

Research Led Content that Generates its OWN Links

Often also referred to as "link bait," or "link magnets," content that has the ability to generate links by itself is the Holy Grail (IMHO). It provides scale to your link acquisition work and focusses on fulfilling the needs of journalists and other writers.

Producing Creative Commons Imagery for Semi Passive Link Building

The Creative Commons License allows creators to produce and share assets like images, sounds and video and distribute them under an attribution license. The Creative Commons attribution license lets people use such assets without a fee providing they attribute correctly and this attribution is an opportunity to build links on some fantastic websites.

This module takes you through the process we've developed over years to do this.

HARO and Beyond: Getting the Most Out of Media Enquiry Services

There's more to media enquiry services than HARO. And there's way more to be gained from their use than single links here and there.

In this section, I'm sharing our approach to media enquiry services and how we're using them to building working relationships with journalists.

We'll talk media enquiry services (beyond HARO), tips for higher success rates when pitching and also proactively pitching expertise or product to journalists before they hit the media enquiry services.

I don't really do email. So you won't be getting any weekly wisdom or anything. Instead, it will be ad hoc emails once per month or less covering new course launches or nifty things we've spotted/learned that we think you'll be interested in.
